*** Documentation For Battle Of Britain ***

Please take the time to read all of this, it will ensure you get the
best results from the simulation.

Minimum System 486DX66 with 2Mb of RAM
Local or PCI video BUS with VESA SVGA CARD or Vesa driver loaded
capable of 640*480 256 colours

To run the simulation in VESA mode use the batch file BOBSVGA.BAT
To run simulation on an S3 chipset video card use BOBS3.BAT
If your video card uses the S3 chipset be sure to use the correct
batch file, it increases frame rate by 20%+ Do NOT use the S3 batch file
if your video card uses another chipset, your system will hang.

REGISTERING BATTLE OF BRITAIN.

As this is a limited simulation confined to one theatre of conflict
there is not a lot of scope for multiple missions. They would all be too
similar.

When you register therefore we will send you either
F-16 Operation Black Diamond
or Vietnam
or Battle Of Midway as a bonus.

You can register one of the above on CompuServe. Simply GOSWREG and
follow the menus. The program ID numbers are listed below.

F-16 Operation Black Diamond ID:7372
Vietnam ID: 7371
Midway ID: 7511

UK users can register by surface mail:
Registration is 10 Pounds sterling Plus 1 Pound Post & Packing.
Simply drop us a letter stating you are using Battle Of Britain
and we will ship your choise of bonus simulation, plus a registered
screen for Battle Of Britain.

KNOWN PROBLEMS
1: Soundblaster 16 Multi media sound card
Engine sound sometimes stops after other sound effects, e.g. guns fired.
We suspect a bug in the SB hardware when running 32 bit VCPI
software. Simply click button 2 on your joystick (Weapons toggle)
or hit key F if using the keyboard (Drops a flare) When the new
FX stops the engine sound comes back.

Message: Previously installed software is neither DPMI or VCPI compatible.
   And game will not load.
Cause: EMM386 loaded with NOEMS or NOVCPI switch. If you must use EMM386
use EMM386 RAM instead. This will still provide access to UMB's and
extended memory. Backup your AUTOEXEC.BAT AND CONFIG.SYS Files BEFORE
you start modifying them. See your DOS manual for further details about
modifying these files, and EMM386 switches.

DO'S AND DON'TS
2: Do run the game from DOS only
DON'T try to run it from a shell such as PCTOOLS or Windows.

Do use a Joystick rather than the keyboard or mouse. Trying to fly an
aircraft with such realistic handling qualities is very difficult without
   a good joystick.

Playing The Simulation:

The objective is straight forward enough! Takeoff and intercept all enemy
aircraft in the area. Other Spitfires will help you, and there will be some
very intense air battles going on.

Each time you play the simualtion, the objectives will change slightly, so
no two flights will be the same! Depending on your tactics, the enemy will
alter theirs.

The flight model is designed to give everyone a chance. Hardened sim user
and novice alike. It will take those of you who have never flown, some time
to get used to the fluid feel of the flight model.

The Spitfire is a highly agile, fighter. It can turn on a sixpence, (Dime if
your in the U.S. :-) but airspeed soon drops if you keep pulling the nose
round too hard.

Get into the habbit of trading altitude for airpseed when you are getting slow.
The German fighters in the simulation are manned by GOOD pilots so watch your
six! Enemy bombers will not take evasive action if attacked, but they will
shoot back if they see you.

See if you can find any of the V1 Doodle Bugs! These small and very fast rockets
are hard to bring down! But it's FUN trying!
_____________________________________________________________________________

FRAME RATES:

We get 25 fps on a P5 66 with Diamond Stealth video card. The only time the
simulation will slow down to 10 fps is if there are too many aircraft in one
dogfight. Pressing ALT T in flight will give a version number, and frame rate
is the next figure on the list. The remaining data is objects active, memory
used and some other tech stuff you can ignore.

Right that's enough from me. Go get them.
