Additions And Amendments to FST Tutorial (FSTTUT.ZIP)
Revision 1 - 19 June 1994

There is a mistake near the end of the Shape Editor section called "Slopes and Tapers - Moving Points". My text says "...draw the largest cross-section in one of the vertical planes (eg the ZX plane)". It SHOULD read "...draw the largest cross-section in one of the vertical planes (eg the XY plane)". Apologies for this; I hope you weren't too confused!

You may find, when you run your jet simulation (FLY.EXE), that you have no engine sound.
Firstly, make sure that you have chosen the option "Engine Sound" from the control menu in the simulation. (get to the menu by pressing ESC from the sim cockpit). The option "All Sounds" gives you gear noises, etc, but DOESN'T include engine sounds! "All" apparently means "All except engine"!!!

If you still don't get engine sounds, try renaming jet.wav to prop.wav. Some versions of FST apparently have a bug which only recognises prop.wav as the engine sound, regardless of which engine is actually selected for the sim. My CD-ROM version doesn't have this problem, but if you have FST on floppy, you may encounter it. Use Windows File Manager to delete prop.wav from your project directory (NOT the FST Library Directory), and rename jet.wav to prop.wav. (If you try to do it from DOS, you will be told "Access Denied" since FST marks the .wav files as read-only files).

For faster frame rates in the sim, check all of the shapes you create for hidden internal polygons and remove them. FST will still draw them otherwise, wasting processor time since they can't be seen. For example, if you create an extrusion, and then taper from the end of that extrusion to a point, the polygon that was the end of the extrusion (before tapering) is now buried inside the solid structure and can't be seen from the outside in Solid View. Select it and delete it to speed up drawing of the shape.
