Fly 3.29e and Model 1.21
========================
This archive contains Fly 3.29 with a couple of extra bits and
support for the "version 2" model files. There are no new features
in Model 1.21 but a couple of adjustments to the "version 2" model
file.

Fly 3.29e
---------
1)  Can now read the "version 2" model files. The main thing is
    that the fuel consumption is taken from this file plus it is
    possible to have VTOL aircraft. (Fly has had VTOL aircraft
    for several years.)

2)  It is possible to have the cockpit lit in red at night as if
    using a night light.

3)  The twilight horizon bands can be switched off.

4)  Aircraft have to land, come to a complete stop and be there
    with their engines turned off before they will be refueled.

5)  Sims can be given a title. This will appear as the window
    title under Windows and Linux.


Model 1.21
----------
The main change to this is to add a "model type" entry at the
start of the file so that it would in theory be possible to have
model files for things other than aircraft.


VTOL Aircraft
-------------
These have been in Fly for some time but they still need some
work.

All VTOL aircraft are assumed to have vectored thrust like a
Harrier. The angle of the thrust is controlled by two keys:

Home      decreases the angle
End       increases the angle

Shift-Home and Shift-End decrease and increase the angle by 10% of
the range.

Ctrl-Home returns the vector angle to 0
Ctrl-End  sets the vector angle to the maximum

Note that the controls take several seconds to operate.

Tip: to point the nozzles vertically down, set the maximum angle
to 100 degrees. Pressing Ctrl-End means that the nozzles will
rotate to 100 degrees. Pressing Shift-Home will rotate them back
by 10% of this, that is, 10 degrees, to 90 degrees.

Tip 2: ensure that the engine thurst is greater than the weight of
the aircraft. The weight plus 20% is a good starting point.

The aircraft controls will operate when in VTOL mode. They operate
thrusters around the aircraft, as on a Harrier.

There are some problems with the VTOL flight model at the moment
and it can become unstable. The main symptom of this is that the
aircraft starts yawing wildly when in a hover. There is no way out
of this except to eject.


Gauge
------

There is a gauge to show the angle of the nozzles for vectored
thrust engines. Add the following line to the gauge file of a
VTOL aircraft:

7 27 244 478 40 16 0 700 270 180

You can move it by adjusting the third and fourth numbers (244 and 478
in this example). The first is the X coordinate and the second
is the Y.

Rotating the nozzles takes several seconds, and responses to
changes in thrust are very slow, probably unrealistically so.
Don't forget to ensure that the engine thrust exceeds the weight
of the aircraft otherwise you will never get anywhere. Weight +
20% is a starting point. It is very difficult to hover. I think
that the throttle adjustment is too coarse to allow it. Have a
go, though.
